It is perhaps natural for you to question why so much gifts are being doled out and what benefit is the researcher getting from it. The answer is actually very simple.
It takes time and money, besides physical labour, to get proper responses for research in social science. Many marketing research companies sustain themselves by collecting data for research purposes. Although that offloads the tension of getting data, still researchers feel more comfortable and confident as they gather their own data.
Earlier respondents were given cash for devoting their time for the survey. That practice has been questioned by many researchers for methodological issues. In countries abroad, there is a tradition of research and generally students are given some credit points for taking part in this kind of research activities. In some other cases, students are given gift vouchers.
The present research being conducted till 31 March 2015 attempts to find out the effect of social media marketing by analyzing responses from students of premium institutes of the country. As it would involve a lot of travel and expenditure of money, the research team has though it to be a win-win situation in which the respondents fill up the questionnaire from the comfort of their own place at their convenient time, and the researchers can continue doing their work.
